Re-acquisition - Citizenship made by a former citizen of Trinidad and Tobago (other than birth or descent).
  Resident Status in Trinidad and Tobago is lost by voluntarily residing outside Trinidad and Tobago for a continuous period of one (1) year.   Citizenship can be lost if such a citizen acquires the citizenship of another country by voluntary act other than marriage.
   
Application for Citizenship by Naturalization
 
A citizen of any country, other than the British Commonwealth or Republic of Ireland, who holds resident status in Trinidad and Tobago for a minimum of 8 years, may apply to the Minister of National Security for the grant of a Certificate of Naturalization 
- Section 12 (1) of the Citizenship Act Chapter 1:50
An application form is obtained from the Ministry of National Security, no fee attached.
An application is submitted to the Ministry of National Security on the prescribed form 8, three (3) Original forms, and is subject to the approval of the Minister (MNS website).
On approval a Certificate of Registration of a Minor (Form 10) is issued.
  Requirements: -
 
  Birth Certificate of Minor
  Marriage/Divorce Certificates (where applicable)
  Police Certificate of Character from country of residence and /or home country
  Medical Forms 40 and 40A
  Proof of Legal Entry into Trinidad and Tobago
  Proof of Resident Status
  Proof that he has resided in Trinidad and Tobago for the period of twelve (12) months immediately preceding the date of application
  Adequate Knowledge of the English Language and duties of a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago
  Take the Oath of Allegiance of Trinidad and Tobago
